Battlefield 3 Launch Fix

The Hex Patch Fix (No Downloads Needed)

If you do not want to download a repository, a community-vetted fix on the Steam Forums bypasses the activation screen by editing a specific file in the game directory. [1]

The activation glitch is frequently caused by a failure in how the game reads the system's motherboard ID. By altering a single code byte in the licensing DLL, the game skips the validation prompt entirely. [1]

  1. Go to your Battlefield 3 installation folder:\ ...\Battlefield 3\Core\
  2. Find the file named awc.dll. Make a copy of it and name it awc.bak.dll just in case you want a backup.
  3. Open the original awc.dll file using a free Hex Editor tool (such as HxD).
  4. Use the search/go-to feature to navigate to offset address 0x3A55.
  5. You will see the hex value 74. Change that value to EB.
  6. Save the file and launch the game from Battlelog. [1]

Let me know if you want to try the Hex Editor method and need help finding the exact line to change, or if you prefer the GitHub tool link route! [1, 2]
